THE WAIT
He was sitting in the hallway
Tapping his fingers on the table next to him
He was tired but he refused to sleep
Every time the doors across the hall opened
He would jump up and rush to see what was happening
And every time, to his dismay, it was nothing he was hoping for
Feelings of anxiousness and tension was turning his stomach making him feel sick
This all started when he came off night-shift from work
As he walked into his apartment he could sense there was emptiness
And on the table next to the telephone was a note that read:
“It’s happened! It’s time!”
These words kept running though his mind while he waited in that hallway
Stress could be clearly seen in his face as all he would do is frown and grind his teeth
He began to pace the hallway back n forth, up and down
And he kept mumbling to himself, “What’s taking so long?”
As he turned to pace once more the doors opened once again
A man dressed in white approached him and told him to follow
His face went pale and he clenched his fists as he entered the room
And there in the far corner of the room was a familiar face
To whom he ran to and gave a warm embrace
Tear filled his eyes as she looked at him and said:
“My love, say hello to your little girl.”
There in her bosom lay a beautiful baby girl.
His heart felt as if it skipped a beat as he took her in his arms and kissed her head
He sat on the bed next to his wife and he exclaimed in joy:
“I am a father!”
